Joseph Charles Singleton, "JC" of Angleton Texas, passed from this world Friday Dec. 11, 2009.
At the age of 90. He was born Dec. 11 1919 to Avery and Louisa Singleton, in Pearl River Co. Mississippi.
J.C. was preceded in death by his father James Avery Singleton, mother Louisa L. Amaker Singleton., brother James Avery Singleton Jr. two sisters, Helen Ottwell and Edna Day.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his youth. An accomplished carpenter by his late
teens, he followed that career to retirement. He owned and operated a Humble service station for some time.
J.C. also operated an oilfield hotshot truck in the 1980's. He finally retired a second time after driving a school bus in both Angleton and then Danbury, spanning more than ten years.
Among his achievements he was most proud of, his service in the U.S. Navy. J.C. went aboard ship in 1941 as a Carpenters' Mate. His duties included damage control and manning the ships guns.
He was then transferred into the all volunteer Underwater Demolition Teams. UDT were later to form the U.S. Navy Seal Teams. His team, UDT 17, served proudly in the South Pacific. The teams job was to clear obstacles in the water and surf allowing landing craft to make it to shore.
J .C. is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marion Juanita Singleton, seven children, Brenda Finke and husband Lawrence, Larry Spencer and wife Barbara, Cindy Smith,
J. C. "Joey" Singleton J r. and friend Lissa, Kim Babik and husband C.J., James Singleton, and Lynn Toledo. Twenty-four grandchildren, Seventeen great-grandchildren and One great-great grandchild.
Funeral services are set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Palms. J.C.’s Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
