John Dalton Burney, 86, of Danbury, Texas passed away on June 3, 2026. John was born on February 1, 1940, in Swift Creek, North Carolina to Robert Simon and Louise (Pittman) Burney.
He married Mildred on August 10,1963 in Ringgold, Georgia.
John was a devoted father who never missed an opportunity to watch and support his children in the activities they loved. Family was at the center of his life, and he found great joy in celebrating their accomplishments. John was generous and selfless, with a home and heart that were always open to those in need. Whether helping a friend through a difficult time or offering a place to stay for family members, he was always willing to lend a hand. His willingness to give of himself and care for others was one of the many ways he showed his love for those around him. He spent years dedicated to his career with Monsanto, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool, woodworking, and relaxing with the occasional bourbon and cigar.
Those that preceded him in death include his wife Mildred, parents Robert Simon and Louise Burney, brother Bobby Burney, sister Betty Rouse, brother-in-law Roy Rouse, nephews Doug Burney and Greg Rouse.
Left to carry on his legacy and cherish his memories are his children: Debra Peltier (Michael), Sherry Grassmuck (Doug), John Burney Jr. (Tammy); Sibling: sister-in-law Joyce Burney; Grandchildren: Chase Peltier (Natalie), Ashley Crisp (Clint), Railey Peltier (Lisa), John Grassmuck (Monica), Kristen Stein, Christopher Grassmuck (Alissa), Trey Burney (Angela), and Bradi Burney (Will).
