Marjorie Elaine Ranly Zgarba
Marjorie (Margie) Zgarba, 89, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026 in Danbury, Tx. Born in Corpus Christi, Tx. on October 6,1936 to parents Raymond and Emma Ranly, she spent her earlier school years in Galveston, Tx. Her family eventually moved to Danbury where they opened Ranly’s Cafe, and where she spent many days helping in the family restaurant. While attending Danbury High School, she met her loving husband, James “Jim” Donald Zgarba, and together they enjoyed 65 wonderful years together and raised four children.
Margie worked as a proof reader at The Angleton Times Newspaper in her early career, then moved into banking where she worked at ABC Bank as head bookkeeper and assistant cashier for many years. She finished her career at Coastal National Bank (Texas Gulf), retiring in 1991 after being promoted to Cashier. Margie enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, fishing, sewing, genealogy, and was a wonderful cook. She especially loved spending time with her all her family and grandpups and just being outdoors. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Margie is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Leon and Erwin Ranly. She is survived by her children, son, James Donald “Don” Zgarba Jr. and wife Pam; son,Travis Zgarba; daughter, Cheryl Scott and husband Steve; son, Rex Zgarba and husband David Davalos; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; sister, Laverne Pousson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m., Monday May 18th at Palms Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 19th at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Danbury, with Fr. Arnel Barrameda officiating.
Interment will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Steve Scott, David Davalos, Tom Sujack, Marcus Vandorvec, and Marty Stulberg.
