Delbert "Droopy" Lanier age 74 born the younger of a set of twins, on June 20,1951 to John Everett Lanier and Georgia Mae (Adams) Lanier in Temple, Texas passed away on May 12, 2026, in Angleton, TX, after an 8-year struggle with P.S.P. Disease.
The family moved to Angleton shortly after "the twins" were born where he'd remain a resident his whole life. Growing up near Bastrop Bayou he developed a love for fishing, boating and all things water related early on well into adulthood, that also included annual return trips to Lake Belton in Bell County for camping and larger family fun. As he built his life in Brazoria County, he worked hard and played hard as often as he could. He enjoyed his large extended family, watching all the generations added as the years went on and the close friendships he made along the way. He loved being a grandpa and great uncle to all the little ones and spoiling them as much as possible.
He married his wife Linda (Walker) Lanier on October 30, 1983. During their 42-plus year marriage they built a home on the very land he grew up on, took many vacations together and enjoyed countless cross country motorcycle rides. Together, they hosted many gatherings over the years on his original homestead, the way it was in his youth. He loved to cook for the masses and entertain his family and friends.
For many years Delbert served his community by volunteering on the Brazoria County Fair Association Board of Directors, Executive Board and any other committee in need. Always one for finding fun where he could, it was known for him always having candy in his pocket and passing it out with a smile, earning him the nickname "The Candyman". He later joined the Masonic Brotherhood becoming an active member of the Angleton Masonic Lodge #829. There he was ultimately bestowed the Masonic Golden Trowel Award, the highest honor an individual Lodge can bestow upon one of its members recognizing brethren who quietly and selflessly give their time to Masonic principles and their community.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents John and Georgia Mae Lanier, his eldest brother Jesse "Butch" Lanier and his cherished Uncle Alton Lanier, amongst many other family members who received him in Heaven. He leaves behind to honor his memory his wife Linda (Walker) Lanier, daughter Mindy Slubar-Stark (husband Jeremey) of Angleton, TX. and son Daniel Lanier (wife Stacey) of Simonton, TX. Grandchildren Bryce Slubar (Rachel Wells), Tanner Slubar (Oscar Torres), Craig Lanier and Preston Lanier. Siblings Thelbert Lanier (wife Cyndie) of Livingston, TX and Debra "Sissy" Howell (husband Dirk) of Neches, TX. Honorary pallbearers are nephews Jason Bullard, Randall Lanier, Colt Cassil and Justin Lanier.
Special acknowledgement going to Delbert's niece Elizabeth Cassil for her unwavering support, love, special care and attention she selflessly gave not only to Delbert throughout his final struggles with P.S.P., but his wife Linda and daughter Mindy throughout.
