Alexander "Alex" Garcia
Trevino
Aug 2, 1946 — May 17, 2026
Alexander Garcia Trevino, lovingly known throughout his life as Sonny, Alex, Dad and his most favorite title of all, “Papa”, passed away on May 17, 2026 at the age of 79. He was born on August 2, 1946 and was a lifelong presence in Angleton and throughout Brazoria County, where his generous heart, larger than life personality and willingness to help anyone in need made a lasting impact on countless lives.
Alex is survived by his wife of 34 ½ years Jody Trevino; his children and family: Jason Shepard and wife Jeanine of Bozeman, Julie Cope and husband David Hodgin of Angleton, and Emily Shepard and wife Elizabeth of Richmond. He was a proud grandfather to Chelsie Cope, John Cope and wife Heather, Theron Shepard and wife Payton, Faith Lucht and husband Michael, Jarron Neal, and Seth Bercegeay. He was also a treasured great-grandfather to Lexie Ramirez, Brycen Lewis, Payton Lewis, McKenzie Bercegeay, Cole Bercegeay, Brighten Cope, and Amiri Robertson. He also leaves behind numerous bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved deeply.
Alex is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Mona Trevino, Ophila Trevino, LaReta Larison and wife Rusty and LaRae Loyd. He was deeply loved by numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of our family.
Alex dedicated many years of hard work to his community, spending 20 years at Dow and 23 years Brazoria County Pct. 2 Road and Bridge. He was also well known as an auctioneer, horseshoer, and what many simply called “an all-around nice guy”.
A man of strong Faith, Alex loved his Lord and his church family at Heart City Church. As long as his health allowed, he faithfully attended every Wednesday night and Sunday morning service. He often shared his favorite saying the anyone he met: “I’m just following my Leader.”
Alex’s heart for others reached across Brazoria County. He rarely said no when asked to help with benefit fundraisers for families in need, always wanting to ease burdens and show love and support wherever he could.
Trail riding was one of Alex’s greatest passions-and wherever Alex was, there was usually a good time to be had. He was a proud member of the Brazoria County Trail Riders Association and a co-founder of the Marshal Payne Trail Ride Association in 1990. The original Committee, affectionately known as the “Friends of Marshal Payne”, held a special place in his heart. Alex served as President from 1990 to 1992 and later as Vice President, always supporting the organization and its leadership whether he held an office or not.
Alex was far from perfect, as he would have been the first to admit, but his huge heart and unforgettable personality made up for “some” of that. If you knew Alex, you knew there was always a story to hear-and according to him, every one of them was true.
We feel sure Alex received a wonderful ”Welcome Home” from the family and friends he missed so much: his father, Epiminio “Shorty” Trevino; his mother, Sara Garcia Trevino; his brothers, Eloy, Eli, JR (wife, Georgia Trevino), and Eddie; his sisters, Erma, Patsy, Mary (husband, Isaac Garza), and Minnie; along with anyone willing to listen to his “TRUE STORIES.”
Visitation for Alex will be held at Heart City Church in Angleton on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 10:30 am. Funeral Service will follow at 11:15 am, with Pastor Ryan Olivier officiating.
Alex leaves behind a legacy of laughter, service, faith, friendship and love that will continue to live on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
