Walter “Wally” Francis Fitzpatrick
September 7, 1933 ~ January 27, 2010
Walter “Wally” Francis Fitzpatrick passed away on January 27, 2010, at the age of 76. He was born on September 7, 1933, in Elmira, New York, the son of Marcelina and Francis Fitzpatrick.
Wally graduated from Elmira High School in 1951. After he spent two years in the Army during the Korean War, he moved to California where he met the love of his life, Janie. They married on August 27, 1955, and were married for 53 years. During that time, they lived in Hudson, New York, Atlanta, Georgia, Tyler, Texas and Cleveland, Ohio. They moved to the Brazosport area in 1978.
Wally taught Air Conditioning and Refrigeration at Brazosport College for 17 years. Prior to this, he worked for G.E., during which time he earned his B.S. in Industrial Science for the University of Texas at Tyler.
Wally was a dedicated member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, where he was a member of the choir, a deacon and the Boy Scout Master. Having earned his Eagle, scouting remained one of his lifelong passions. He is a member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Angleton.
Wally is survived by sons, Steve (Marta) of Tyler, Larry and Tim of Angleton; daughter, Lisa of Angleton. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kelli Armstrong (Blake), Jayme Fitzpatrick and Maggie Wright (Ty) all of Tyler, Sara Mitchell (PFC Nick in Iraq) and Lauren Fitzpatrick of Frisco and Patrick Ross of Angleton. Wally is also survived by two great grandchildren, Avery and Alec Armstrong of Tyler, and his older sister, Evelyn Shore of Sacramento, CA, and her extended family.
A memorial service for Wally will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church.
