William (Bill) Joseph Sylvester Sr

William (Bill) Joseph Sylvester Sr., 78 of Danbury Texas, went to be with the Lord on 1 October 2008. He was born in Huntsville Texas on February 10, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Chessie Eleanor Sylvester, and his sister Barbara Anderson, and daughter-in-law Linda Sylvester who await him in heaven. He is survived by his brother Allen Sylvester and sisters Ollie Sue Bounds and Dorothy Northcutt. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He served his nation joining the Army Air Corps in 1945 and later served in the United States Air Force. He was initially stationed in Misawa Japan, during the US Occupation of Japan, and later he fought in the Korean Conflict, earning one Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. After his service in the military he worked for the Rockadyne US Space program in Los Angeles, California, as a welder, The Bureau of Indian Affairs in Albuquerque, New Mexico, trading post and had a long career as a Pipe Fitter in Local 211, holding many unique certifications, using those skills at the South Texas Project in Wadsworth. Many years ago, Mr. William Sylvester, a staunch Democrat, was selected to represent his local district at the Democratic National Convention held in San Antonio, TX. He was an avid automotive repairman, hunter, fisher, and relic collector. Whether it was repairing cars, organizing fishing outings, or helping a neighbor or a kind deed it was his for the giving without seeking gain or reward. He was the man God created him to be and the friend that anyone is fortunate to have known. Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 48 years, Evelyn Elizabeth Sylvester of Danbury, Texas; his children William J, Sylvester Jr., John H.Sylvester and wife Mary Ann, Patrick K. Sylvester and close friend Kathryn Scopel and her son Patrick, Tammy R. Sylvester, Molly K. Salinas and husband Martin of Danbury, TX, and Judy L. Austin and husband Larry of San Antonio, TX. Surviving grandchildren include Tim Sylvester, of Cypress TX, Shawn Kappes and wife Lindsay of Richmond TX, Scott Kappes of Houston, TX, William J Sylvester III, and wife Lesile of Angleton, TX, Chris Orlea and wife Malinda of Lake Jackson, TX, Nick Orlea of Danbury TX, Sheldon Shed of Pearland TX, and 7 great-grandchildren. Special family friends who he took in as his very own includes Johnny Burch and James Sledge. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Palms Funeral Home, 2300 E. Mulberry, Angleton TX at 2 PM Friday October 3rd 2008. Burial will follow at the Danbury TX cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Sylvester and William Sylvester, III, Shawn and Scott Kappes, and Chris and Nick Orlea. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Burch , Eric Clinton, Ryan Brown, and Sheldon Shed.
