Atlan Carl Wiemken

Atlan Carl Wiemken, a WWII veteran, passed away on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009. He was born on December 27, 1918 in LaGrange, Texas.
Atlan served in the United States Army from 1940 to 1945. He was a Staff Sgt. in the 77th Field Artillery 2nd Battalion. He served in North Africa, Italy and Sicily. Upon his return to the states he married Winifred (Winnie) Voelkel. Atlan and Winnie came to Angleton in 1956. He was an active member of St John Lutheran Church and served on the church council and building committee. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Brazoria County Fair Association. Most people will remember him as a loan officer for The First National Bank of Angleton. He retired as Senior Vice President in 1983.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Gerhardt Wiemken and Elfriede Wiemken, his loving wife, Winifred Voelkel Wiemken, his brothers, Milton and Garland, sisters, Edna Wiemken, Elsie Koepke, and Mildred Yarrell.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Ashley, one son, Jimmy Wiemken and wife Debbie, daughters; Carol Peterson and husband, Don; Kay Carter and husband, Jim; Karen Lonsford and husband Dean. Five grandchildren; David Peterson and wife Andra; Tessa Williams and husband, Johnny; Bryan Carter, Brett Carter and wife, Allison; Jarrett Lonsford; and five great-grandchildren; Marina Huffman, Madison Huffman, Jaden Williams, Ashlyn Carter and Lanie Carter; and special friend Miriam Goodman.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 13, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Angleton, TX. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 14th at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Angleton, TX with Pastor Preston Weatherly officiating. Graveside services will take place at LaGrange City Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. on the 14th with Pastor Marvin Koenig officiating.
Pallbearers are David Peterson, Bryan Carter, Brett Carter, Jarrett Lonsford, Johnny Williams and Joe Lonsford. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Boehm, Marvin Riewe, Don Fuchs, Pat Patterson, Stan Singer and Fred Oberhelman.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to St. John Lutheran Church Building Fund.
