Woodrow William Shimek, of Angleton, TX, a lifelong member of Brazoria County, passed away on July 13, 2024, at the age of 81. He was born on December 9, 1942, in Schulenburg, TX, where he spent his early years exploring the outdoors and climbing trees.
After graduating from Angleton High School in 1961, Woodrow married his high school sweetheart, Janice Byrd, on June 20, 1962. Their love story endured an incredible 62 years. A dedicated operator in the chemical industry, he worked for Dow Chemical, where he made countless friends and memories over the years.
In his free time, Woodrow found joy in woodworking, hunting on his East Texas land, and cheering on his favorite football teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Angleton Wildcats. His passion for these activities brought smiles to those around him and filled his life with happiness.
Woodrow is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Shimek, his son, Cliffton Shimek, and his sister, Jeanette Juroska.
Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents: Willie Shimek & Edith Shimek.
A visitation ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at Palms Funeral Home on July 18, 2024, at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Following his wishes, Woodrow will be cremated and laid to rest in a private ceremony.
His loving spirit, infectious laughter, and kind heart will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In honoring Woodrow’s memory, we invite friends and family to join us in reflecting on his life and sharing stories of his adventures during the visitation ceremony.
