William (Bill) Carl Cunningham (83) passed away surrounded by his children on
February 9, 2024.
William, known to many as (Bill or W.C.), was born to Carl and Bernice (Fellers)
Cunningham on March 6, 1940 in Corpus Christi, TX. Bill served in the military
from 1961-1964 with a stint in Germany. He was well known for his love of
softball, umpiring, and fishing.
Bill is survived by his four children, Wendy Tow (Richard), Sandy Cunningham,
Kathy Trower (Beau), and Bill Cunningham (Tara). His grandchildren are Blake
(Beatriz) Trower, Brett Trower, Jessica Tow, Brent Cunningham, Alex
Cunningham, Emma Cunningham, Margo (Anthony) Hinson, and Danielle
Gilstrap. His great-grandchildren are Bryson Trower, Ashtan and Alijah Johnson,
Brayden and Bradley Trower, and Rowan Hinson. He is also survived by his sister,
Mary Binford, as well as nieces and nephews.
A teacher’s instruction piqued Bill’s curiosity and interests about chemistry. He
attended Sam Houston College in Huntsville, TX where he majored in Chemistry
and minored in English. He went on to pursue his Masters in Chemistry which led
him to a career and many accomplishments at Dow Chemical (30 years) in
research to which he moved his family to Angleton. Angleton and surrounding
areas provided opportunities for his love of sports: volleyball, bowling, coaching,
umpiring, and fishing. He was known as Coach Bill or Mr. C to many; and his love
for the sport led him to be a part of the Women’s Olympic Softball Scrimmage
Tour in Lake Jackson, Tx. When it came to umpiring, it was said he could quote
the page number and the rule number without even opening the rule book. His
love of fishing took him on many interesting trips to Mexico with family and
friends. His kids are lucky to know where his favorite fishing spots and “honey
holes” are for future memorable fishing trips with their families.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Bluhm) Cunningham of 28 years. He
is also preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Bernice.
