William Ross "Bill" Smith

William Ross “Bill” Smith, 68, of Sweeny Texas went to his heavenly home on August 27, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. 

Bill began his life journey on February 18, 1957 in Freeport, Texas to Virgil Lee and Betty (Lewis) Smith. Bill attended Columbia High School. 

For 20+ years Bill dedicated his life’s work to Palms Funeral Home where he not only served as a devoted employee but also became an inseparable part of the Palms family. His compassion and selflessness for grieving families left an indelible impact on those he served. 

An integral part of his life was his involvement with the Brazoria County Fair Association, TASO, ASA Softball, Little League, Brazosport Umpire Chapter, Youth and High School Football, softball and basketball. His dedication to the kids not only from Brazoria County, but across the State of Texas was unwavering. The bonds and camaraderie among his fellow umpires was immeasurable. 

Bill enjoyed camping trips with his wife, Patty, dancing, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Virgil Lee and Betty Smith, brother Ron Smith, daughter-in-law Ryan Smith, and best friend Darrell Jordan. 

He was survived by his wife, Patricia Smith, sons, Alvie Lee Smith, Andy Ross Smith, bonus sons, Ryan Jones (Shanna), Bryan Jones (Anna), grandchildren, Paige Smith, Harlie Smith, Alexzander Smith, Dahkotah Smith, Grayson Smith, bonus grandchildren, Braxton Northam, Toryn Northam, Trinity Northam, Garrett Jones, Riley Jones, and Blake Jones, sister Jan Jones (Larry), and a host of nieces, nephews, family member and friends. 

Bill’s visitation will be at 11:00 am with the funeral service following at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, TX. Interment will follow at Sweeny Cemetery in Sweeny, TX. 

Pallbearers will be Charles Wilbanks, Larry Reeves, Jerry Van Avery, Ronnie Baines, Clarence Johnican, and Braxton Northam. Honorary pallbearers are Kelvin Steamer, David Gregory, Eddie Hardeman, Jimmie Salinas, Alexzander Smith, Grayson Smith, Garrett Jones, Riley Jones, and Blake Jones. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s name to the Brazoria County Fair Association.
