Weldon Ray Zgarba, 85, of Angleton, passed away in his home on June 18, 2025.
Weldon was born on April 20, 1940, in Danbury, TX to Jerry and Irene (Cook) Zgarba. A high school standout in the classroom and on the football field, Weldon gave his life to Christ while attending First Baptist Church of Danbury. He represented his family, his church, his school and his hometown with pride, developing and nurturing deep family ties and friendships that are alive still today.
Out of high school, Weldon, like his father and brothers, joined the military and proudly served his country in the United States Army, being honorably discharged in 1962. After his military service, he was hired at Monsanto Chemical Company where he worked shift work. During this time, he met Betty, the forever love of his life. The two were married at FBC Angleton on December 21,1963. They started their family in 1965, and Weldon eventually left Monsanto for a thriving career in real estate.
Later, when Betty had retired from teaching, Weldon traded his golf clubs for an RV and a fishing pole. When they weren’t traveling the country together “antiquing” and searching for new adventures, you could find them cheering on their grandkids, on a mission trip somewhere in the world, and traveling, camping, and fishing with friends.
Weldon was well known to Brazoria County, being actively involved in a wide variety of organizations including FBC-Danbury, FBC Angleton, Angleton Chamber of Commerce, The Lions Club, the Free Masons, the Brazoria County Fair Association, Habitat for Humanity, the Texas Port Ministry, Associated Builders and Contractors, and the Brazoria County Drainage District.
Weldon loved the Lord. Throughout his life, his servant’s heart touched so many people in his community. While serving with the high school youth leadership at FBC Danbury, RAs, Cub Scouts, as a baseball coach, and through a variety of public and private organizations, he was always leading others to Jesus through his words and deeds.
He is preceded in death by his beautiful and loving wife of 55 years, Betty Zgarba, his parents Jerome and Irene Zgarba, and his older brother Jerry Allen Zgarba.
Left to remember him are his children, Jay Zgarba (Rhonda) from Sugar Land, Wendy Zgarba (Kirk Kaufman) from Angleton, his brother John Zgarba of Angleton, grandchildren Harrison, Barrett, and Georgia Zgarba of Sugar Land, and numerous close friends and family throughout Brazoria County and the state of Texas.
The family would like to thank Weldon’s caregiver, Ruby Castillo, and the staff at IPH Home Health Care and Hospice (Clute, TX) for their tireless commitment and loving services these last months.
