Verla Williamson Copeland

May 18, 1937 — December 20, 2025

Verla Williamson Copeland passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Verla was born on May 18, 1937, in Krotz Springs, Louisiana. She graduated from Patterson High School in Patterson, Louisiana, in 1955 and married E.A. (Mike) Copeland in 1956. They were married for 51 years.

Verla and Mike lived all over the country while he served in the USAF. They were the parents of four children, Terri, Tim, Toni, and Tracie. She was a devoted Gran to Lisa and Leah and spent many hours participating in their many activities and celebrations.

Confident in her salvation through Jesus Christ, Verla shared her faith with everyone she met. The impact she made while she was with us was widespread and will continue to grow His Kingdom. Her joy was contagious and she was a constant prayer warrior for everyone she knew. She considered her primary role to be raising her four children, but used her many gifts to serve others.

Her gifts were extensive and extended into her career as a hairdresser for many friends and family members throughout the years. She excelled as a mentor, seamstress, hostess, and so many other beloved pursuits.

Serving her church family was a vital part of Verla’s life. She spent many years leading the kitchen crew at Second Baptist Church in Angleton, Tx, where she was a member for 52 years. She was dedicated to the building plans of the new facility at Second Baptist and very proud when her role in the project was completed. One of her many talents was sewing. Verla could create anything her friends needed or wanted, and did alterations for so many.

Her home was welcoming to all and was rarely without visitors. It was the hub for her children and their friends; always the chosen place for an impromptu gathering. Her life exemplified her innate belief that her purpose was to meet the needs of family and friends.

Verla was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike, her son Tim, parents, Henry and Bertha Williamson, sisters Dorothy Mitchell and Jean LaCombe.

She is survived by her daughters, Terri Copeland, Toni Weber (Jim), and Tracie Copeland, granddaughters, Lisa Youngblood (Myles) and Leah Strickland (Joshua), great-grandson, Oliver Youngblood, and great-granddaughter, Eden Strickland, brother Francis Paul Williamson, and cherished nieces and nephews.

Friendship was an integral part of her life. Many of her friends met her in heaven when she arrived Saturday, while several continue to carry her memory and her love of Christ. Those left whose friendship she cherished include Lecta Gardner, Almeta Adams, Carol Koym, Janet Brooks, Gloria Moore, and the members of her Sunday School class.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 28, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and the celebration of her remarkable life will be Monday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. Both will be at Angleton Second Baptist Church, 1817 Shanks Rd., Angleton, TX 77515. A private graveside service will be held at the Houston National Cemetery on December 31, at 2:00 p.m.
