Susan Elaine Mercado, age 69, of Danbury, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, after years of battling Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Susan was born in Del Rio, Texas, on October 1, 1955. She graduated from Del Rio High School and continued her studies at Texas Woman’s University.
Early on Susan enjoyed residing in Germany for four years, living between the cities of Speicher, Orenhofen and Spangdahlem, with her first husband, where her first son (Stephen) was born.
Susan served as Danbury Little League Treasurer and President, as well as being in youth ministry for two years. She possessed the skill and resiliency to learn how to drive old rice trucks throughout Brazoria County.
On July 18, 1981, Susan married Robert Mercado, Jr., and together they shared 44 years of marriage.
Throughout her life, Susan worked in many roles, including Pharmacy Technician, ESL Assistant, Bank Teller, Spanish Tutor, Chiropractic Assistant, Homemaker, wife, and mother.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Mercado, Jr.; her brother, Steve Haynes (Annie); her sister, Kristi Geyer (Wesley); her children, Stephen Brown (Laura), Dustin Mercado (Nikki), and Darin Mercado; and her cherished grandchildren, Kaycee Brown, Kylie Nash, Kamerion Nash, Aiden Mercado, Austin Mercado, Kennedy Brown, and Cooper Mercado; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Elizabeth “Ginger” Gault; her adoptive father, Alex Dewey “Mike” Haynes; and her father, John Benjamin “JB” McGonagill.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 227 S. Chenango St., Angleton, TX 77515, with Rev. Travis Smith officiating. A public visitation will begin in the Parish Hall at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service of remembrance and sharing of stories at 11:00 a.m. Fellowship will follow in the church hall.
