In Loving Memory
of
Rufus J. Vega
Rufus J. Vega, 90, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 22, 2025. Rufus was born on July 19, 1935 to Simplicio and Clara Vega in Booth, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Simplicio and Clara Vega; wife, Mary Vega; mother-in-law, Frances Moreno; brothers, Albino “Kenny” Vega and Lee Vega; and sister, Rosie Martinez.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, October 10, 2025 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Palms Funeral Home, with the rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 9:00am at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Angleton.
Rufus was a lifelong resident of Angleton. He attended Angleton High School, where he graduated in 1956. He was a talented multi-sport athlete in baseball, football, and track, which eventually landed him in the Angleton Wildcat sports hall of fame, class of 2008. He started his professional career working for Brazoria County, where he worked for the county clerk’s office. He later on had an opportunity to work for Dow Chemical, where he was a security guard from 1971 until his “retirement” in 1995. But, retirement did not suit him, so he continued his security guard employment with several contractors, which eventually lead him back to Dow Chemical, where he worked for Allied Universal at Salt Dome Operations until August 2020.
Rufus had the kindest and most giving heart and will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
He never met a stranger and he was always there to lend a helping hand to any and all of his family members and friends whenever they needed him. He especially held his friendships with his closest High School Friends with the utmost loyalty: Herbert Taylor, Dale Runkel, Judge J. Ray Gayle, Henry Munson, Richard Willy and Parry Lauzon just to name a few.
He is survived by former wife, Simona Eaves (Joel) of Brazoria; sister, Pauline Damian of Houston; children, Mark Vega (Julie) of Fort Worth, and Lisa Denby of Angleton; grandchildren, Ethan Denby (Harper) of Angleton, Emily Denby (Rylin, life partner) of Houston; great-grandchildren, great grandson due April 2026; and numerous nieces and nephews. And we can’t forget his #1 companion, Rocko.
The family would like to thank Dr. Salim Dabaghi, Dr. James Veselka, and Dr. Howard LaRoche for their dedication to Rufus.
