Richard Peter Rachunek Sr passed away peacefully at home in Angleton on Friday, July 18, 2025. He was 94 years old. He was born in Hungerford, Tx on Dec 21, 1930. He was a loving, devoted husband to his wife, JoAnn for 62 years. She preceded him in death in 2018.
He wore lots of hats/caps - a chemist at Dow, a surveyor for the Dept of Agriculture, a carpenter/architect, rancher, auctioneer, referee and an avid sportsman, Grand Knight and proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
One of Richard’s favorite stories was when he was a young boy and his Ag teacher took him to the Houston Fatstock Show and entered him in the calf scramble. Much to everyone’s surprise, he snagged a calf and won his very first pair of cowboy boots (which are still in his closet). Not prepared, they rode home with the animal in the back seat asleep on his lap all the way to Hungerford.
He made 11 parachute jumps (Army), killed 67 bucks, completed 320 word search puzzle books and donated 9 gallons of blood. We all know how he loved keeping count! He loved family gatherings and every time after saying the blessing he would announce “The President isn’t eating this good!” His favorite riddle to ask anyone, especially strangers, “How old do you think I am?” His favorite card game, taught to him by his oldest grandson, Nathan, was Kings on the Corner. He wanted to play with anyone at anytime, for as long as he could.
Richard was survived by his children Richard Rachunek Jr (Tracy), Michael Rachunek, and daughter Regina Watson (Brent). He also was blessed with 10 grandchildren - Nathan Rachunek, Trey Rachunek (dec), Chad Johnston, Lindsay Rachunek, Haley Rachunek, Bailey Gilbert, Joey Gilbert, Bo Gilbert, Charli Watson, Brittany Littlejohn. And his special blessings, 3 great-grandchildren - Rafael Ramos, Levi Littlejohn and Brynlee Littlejohn.
The family wants to especially thank Richard’s caregivers that served him so faithfully and with such heart during his illness - Sandra Trevino and Alice Ward.
And special thanks to his daughter, Regina, who moved back home to care for her dad with such patience and love the last years of his life.
