Richard Jerry Garner, 76, of Angleton, Texas, passed away on March 19, 2026. He was born on October 12, 1949, in Freeport, Texas, to Richard Lee Garner and Hazel (Blair) Garner.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was centered around his faith, his family, and his service to others. On August 11, 1977, he married the love of his life, Betty Jo (Stover) Garner, in Angleton, Texas. Together, they built a strong and loving family that remained his greatest pride.
A faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Richard served as Head Deacon for ten years, dedicating his time and energy to supporting his church community. His faith guided his life and was evident in the way he cared for others.
Richard spent his career working as a Firefighter and EMT for Dow Chemical, where he served with courage, compassion, and dedication. He was deeply respected by his colleagues for his commitment and willingness to help those in need.
In his free time, Richard found joy in working in his yard, a place where he could reflect, relax, and take pride in creating something beautiful. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jo Garner; his children, Wayne Fletcher (Amy), Jason Garner, Angela Huckaby (Paul), and Sherri Cruise; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lee and Hazel Garner, and his sister, Sharon Morgan.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, March 25, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, also at Palms Funeral Home. Richard will be laid to rest at Mount Zion Cemetery in Apple Springs, Texas.
He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his servant’s heart, and the deep love he had for his family and community.
