Penny Ray Garrett

There are some people whose lives quietly change the world around them simply by the way they love. Penny Ray Garrett, known affectionately by so many as “Granny”, was one of those people.

Penny Ray (Baker) Garrett passed away on August 3, 2026. Born on March 8, 1953, Penny dedicated her life to loving God with her whole heart and loving people the way Christ loved them. Her faith wasn’t something she spoke about only on Sundays, it was the way she lived every single day. Whether she was praying with someone, serving in the church, helping a family in need, or simply offering a warm smile and listening ear, Penny made everyone she met feel seen, valued, and loved.

She truly never met a stranger. If you walked into her life, you became family. She had a servant’s heart and would gladly give you the shirt off her back if it meant helping someone else. She never expected recognition, repayment, or praise. She simply believed that loving people was one of the greatest ways to show them Jesus.

For more than 40 years, Penny faithfully served her church family with unwavering devotion. She wore many hats throughout the years, playing the piano, filling in to minister when needed, cleaning the church, praying over others, and serving wherever there was a need. No task was beneath her because she understood that every act of service was an act of worship. Many knew her as a mighty prayer warrior whose prayers brought comfort, strength, healing, and hope. She carried burdens with others and faithfully took them to the Lord.

Penny’s greatest passion was sharing Jesus. She never hesitated to tell others about the goodness and faithfulness of God. Her life was her testimony. Through her kindness, generosity, compassion, and unwavering faith, she pointed countless people toward Christ. The seeds she planted through prayer, encouragement, and simple acts of love will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Fay Baker; her beloved husband, David Garrett; her daughter, Fay Battey; and her brother, Robert Baker.

She leaves behind a family who was blessed by her love and example: her sons, David Garrett and his wife, Terri, of Vermont, and Bradley K. Garrett and his wife, Emma. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Baker of Brazoria, Texas; Lloyd and Lori Gregory of Brazoria, Texas; Sarah Lacy of Ohio; Donald D. Baker of Brazoria, Texas; and Ben and Carol Gibson of Ohio. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever cherish the love, wisdom, prayers, and faith she poured into their lives.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas.

Although our hearts grieve her absence, we celebrate knowing that Penny has heard the words she longed to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” She lived a life that honored Christ, loved without condition, served without complaint, and gave without expecting anything in return. The world is a better place because Penny Garrett walked through it. Her prayers will continue to echo in the lives she touched. Her kindness will continue through those she inspired. Her faith will continue to shine through the generations she leaves behind.

Granny’s chair may now sit empty, but her legacy never will.

She was deeply loved, will be greatly missed, and will be forever remembered until that glorious day when we are reunited in the presence of our Savior.
