Obituary

Milton Robert Hertel, age 89, of Angleton, Texas, passed away peacefully in Angleton, Texas on January 22, 2026.

Milton was born on February 17, 1936, in the Candlish Community, Bee County, Texas, to Otto Paul Hertel, Sr. and Lillie (Koerth) Hertel. He married the love of his life in August, 1957, Lillian Ruth Warren, in Beeville, Texas, and together they shared many years of marriage and family life.

Milton and his family moved to Angleton, Texas in 1964, from Huntsville, Alabama. He graduated in 1959 from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He had a successful career with Dow Chemical Co. in Freeport, Texas from which he retired in 1994. After retirement he worked for Lyondell in Matagorda, Texas, CDI and Testengeer, Inc.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Angleton, Texas, a past volunteer of the Angleton Fire Department and a past member of the Angleton Evening Lions Club and the Angleton Noon Lions Club and many bridge clubs.

Milton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who took great pride in his family. He is survived by his children, Terri Owens (Jeff) of Galveston and Robin Crouch (Stewart) of Angleton; and his beloved grandchildren, Trenton Crouch (Kati) of Fort Worth, Amber Craven (Zach) of The Woodlands, and Jill Short (Matt) of McKinney; and his great-grandchildren, Olive and Barrett Short of McKinney, Benjamin and Thomas Crouch of Fort Worth, and Callum Craven of The Woodlands.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Ruth Warren Hertel; his parents, Otto Paul Hertel, Sr. and Lillie (Koerth) Hertel; his siblings, Ellene Ida Mae Valenta and Otto Paul Hertel, Jr.; and his grandson, Nathan Owens.

We would like to thank his caregivers over the past year, Debbie, Mary and Sandra, along with Country Village Care and IPH Hospice. Also, Sandra and Stella for the care and support they provided to our parents.

A private graveside service for Milton will be scheduled in the coming days.
