Michael "Mike" Dean
Davenport
September 18, 1960 – April 4, 2026
Michael Dean Davenport, 65, of Danbury, Texas, passed away April 4th, leaving behind a legacy built on hard work and horsepower. Born September 18, 1960, to Rayford “Dave” Davenport and Dixie Moseman, Mike was a 1980 graduate of Angleton High School and a man defined by a life of constant motion. Whether he was tractor pulling, racing cars, or navigating the streets and highways of the country in the heavy hauling business, Mike was always moving forward.
Starting from a small Texaco station in Danbury, Mike launched a legendary career in heavy hauling. He was a master problem-solver, capable of moving massive vessels through the most challenging obstacles. He took immense pride in training the next generation of truck drivers and trailer operators, a legacy that proudly continues today through his daughter and her husband. He believed in leading by example, never asking a driver to do a job he wouldn’t handle himself—an integrity that made him the best in the business.
Mike was a dedicated rancher. He started his first herd before reaching high school, growing it into a successful operation over the next fifty years. He was happiest sharing the farm life with his grandkids, spending every spare moment with them in the pasture and teaching them how to care for the land he worked so hard for. Above all, he taught them the importance of being the kind of person who shows up to lend a hand without being asked.
Mike was one of a kind and his legacy lives on, not just through his family, but through the drivers, operators, ranchers, neighbors, and friends he mentored, cared for, and loved.
He is survived by his daughter Danielle Penney (Joseph) and their children, Paisley and Knox; his son Ryan Davenport (William Smith); his brothers Richard (Suzanne), David (Pat), Dennis (Eileen), and Donnie (Karen); and his sister Peggy.
