Michael Douglas Cox

Michael Douglas Cox of Danbury, passed away on May 22, 2025. Michael began his life journey on July 27, 1954, in Bryan Texas, born to Vernon and Barbara (Lewis) Cox. His journey led him to Darlene McCown and they were wed on December 12, 1992.

Michael was a lifelong resident of Brazoria County and dedicated much of his career as a pipefitting supervisor along the Gulf Coast. He had a passion for bowling and was known for his exceptional skills and sportsmanship on the lanes. Michael competed on the PBA tour from 1983 to 1985 and continued with the SASBA for 10 years, earning his place in the South Brazoria County Hall of Fame in 2013.

When not bowling Michael enjoyed fishing and participated in many tournaments. Among his achievements, the "Best Dressed Fisherman" award was a personal favorite. A pillar of strength for his family, friends and community, Michael exemplified hard work, dedication and selflessness in every aspect of his life.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Vernon E. Cox and his brother Dennis Cox.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Darlene McCown Cox and his children Michael J. Cox, Chad W. Cox and Wendy M. McRoberts; siblings Kim Hatter and her husband Jim, Bubba Cox and his wife Jill, and Billy Cox; grandchildren Micca Risinger and her children, Theo McRoberts, Faith Filipp, Jesse Cox, Dean Cox. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 30 from 11 am until 2 pm at Angleton Lanes.
