Lewis Joe Zapalac, 81, of Angleton, Texas, passed away in Lake Jackson, Texas, on June 2, 2025 in Lake Jackson, Texas. Lewis was born at home in Damon, Texas to his parents; Lewis and Leona Zapalac on June 10, 1943. The family eventually made their home in Angleton, Texas, where Lewis resided the rest of his life.
Lewis lived a full and vibrant life characterized by his deep love for the outdoors. A passionate deer hunter, avid coon hunter, and fisherman, he relished every opportunity to immerse himself in nature, embodying the essence of a true outdoorsman. His years of dedicated service in road and bridge maintenance with Brazoria County Road & Bridge Pct. 4 showcased his commitment to his community and the work that he loved.
A veteran of the United States Army, Lewis served his country with honor, and his faith was an unwavering source of strength and comfort throughout his life. A devoted member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, he cherished his Catholic upbringing and instilled those values in his family. Lewis married Joyce Ann Sifford on November 6, 1971, they spent the next 39 years together, until her passing in 2010.
Lewis is survived by his son, Michael Zapalac, and daughter-in-law, Brandi Zapalac, who along with his grandson, Briar Zapalac. He is also remembered fondly by his brother, Jim Zapalac, and sister, Lillie Hamilton. Lewis is also survived by his nieces; Lisa Todd (husband, George and their boys; Jacob and Jordan Todd) and Jessica Leal (husband, Pedro and their son, Mateo); who will always cherish the memory of their “Uncle Cooks”.
Visitation for Lewis will be on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Palms Funeral Home on Friday, June 13, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Lewis will be laid to rest next to his wife, Joyce at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, Texas.
Those preceding Lewis in death were his wife, Joyce (Sifford) Zapalac, his parents; Lewis and Leona (Prihoda) Zapalac, his grandparents; Louis and Mary (Dirba) Prihoda, and Josef “Joe” and Frances (Stastny) Zapalac, his brother; Johnnie "Pete" Zapalac, and his grandson; Timothy Finn Zapalac.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Michael Zapalac, Briar Zapalac, Jim Zapalac, Greg Zapalac, George Todd, and Pedro Leal.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: J.D. White, Gene Uherek, and Gene LaBauve.
