Obituary

Jimmy Wayne Matheson

May 13, 1949 – October 13, 2026

Jimmy Wayne Matheson, 77, of Danbury, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in Alvin, Texas, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, hard work, and love for his family.

Jimmy was born on May 13, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to Cortez Preston “Matt” Matheson and Joyce Davie Matheson. Following the passing of his mother, Joyce, in 1961, Jimmy was blessed with the love and guidance of a second mother, Billie Jean Matheson.

A true cowboy at heart, Jimmy was a hardworking man who believed in the value of an honest day's work. He spent his career as a lineman for Houston Lighting & Power (HL&P).

Jimmy's cowboy spirit was more than just a way of dressing; it was a way of life. He appreciated the simple things, the satisfaction of working with his hands, and the traditions that came with his love of the cowboy lifestyle. He was also a talented leatherworker who enjoyed the craftsmanship, patience, and attention to detail that went into creating something by hand. His leatherwork was a reflection of his hardworking nature and the pride he took in doing things right.

A longtime resident of Danbury, Texas, Jimmy was a member of Community Baptist Church. His life was rooted in family, faith, and the values he carried with him throughout his years. Those who knew Jimmy will remember his cowboy ways, his hardworking hands, and the memories made along the way.

Jimmy leaves behind his children, Jennifer McPhaul, and Wayne Matheson and wife Alicia; and their daughter, Breann Matheson. He is also survived by his siblings, Sheri Davis and husband John, Nancy Davis, and Tommy Matheson and wife Stacey; along with his beloved nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Ann Matheson; his father, Cortez Preston “Matt” Matheson; both of his loving mothers, Joyce Davie Matheson and Billie Jean Matheson; and his brother-in-law, Richard Davis.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor David Smith officiating.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kathy Howard for her loving help, friendship, and support to Jimmy throughout the years, and to Debra Ortiz for her loving care.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palms Funeral Home.
