Howard Glenn “Popcorn” Hatthorn, 62, of Danbury left us all too soon on November 8, 2025. Glenn made his way into this world on March 13, 1963, in Freeport when he was born to R. C. and Margaret (Carrington) Hatthorn.
Glenn had a passion for racing, setting the track record in the Bomber class for fastest time at Texas Motor Speedway in Alvin in 1994. He spent the majority of his adult life chasing checkered flags and creating friendships everywhere he went. Even when he hung up his racing helmet, he still spent every Saturday night at the track, making sure his son, friends and grandson were the fastest out there.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, both immediate and racing, and afternoon naps in his recliner with his puppy Jett. After retiring from being an auto mechanic for over thirty years, Glenn devoted himself to being the best PawPaw to his grandchildren and racing mentor to the upcoming generations. He was easy to spot, cruising the streets of Danbury with his partner in crime, Carson, in their blue El Camino.
Glenn lived his life in the fast lane with his foot heavy on the pedal. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and friend. He’ll be heavily missed by all those he touched in his years on this earth.
Those that preceded him in death were his father R.C. Hatthorn, stepfather Frank Wasek, nephew Stephen Glenn Russell, Grandmothers “Nannie” Hazel Carrington and Wilma Hatthorn and Granddaddy “Shorty,” (Otis) Hatthorn.
Left to remember him is his mother Margaret Wasek; sister: Sherrie Hatthorn-Walts and her husband Jimmy Walts; children: Dustin Rude and daughter-in-law Tori Rude, Corey Lukasheay and Daughter-in-law Shelby Lukasheay, and daughter Reagan Greak and son-in-law Joe Greak; grandchildren: Carson Glenn Rude, Corbin Rude, Faithlynn Greak, Joseph Greak and Evelyn Greak; nephew: Ryan Plummer and his wife Brandi Plummer and their children.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Community Baptist Church in Danbury. Interment will follow at Danbury Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dustin Rude, Corey Lukasheay, Jason Piña, Joseph Penney, Chad Fuselier (Buckethead), Ricky Raper. Honorary Pallbearers are Carson Glenn Rude and Corbin Rude.
