Gladys Simmons Casper, born on December 27, 1928, passed on to her lord and savior on January 21, 2022 at the age of 93. At the time she had been residing for a short time at Cypress Woods Care Center, Angleton. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Casper and her beloved son, Jesse Eugene. She also cherished the memory of her two babies, who passed at birth, and by her brothers, Clayton Simmons, Winfred Simmons and Lloyd Simmons, niece Elaine Simmons and nephews Jim Simmons, Bubba Simmons and Charles Simmons. She is survived by her nieces, Charlotte Shelton, Joyce Hobbs, Debbie Nerren, Mary Miller, and nephews Clayton Simmons, Jr., Timothy Simmons, Clarence Smith and C.W. "Bud" Simmons. Gladys was known and admired throughout the community as a friend to all she met and always open to visiting with a cup of coffee and pie. She served as cashier and later as hostess at Luby's Cafeteria, Lake Jackson for 32 years. At Luby's Gladys made steadfast friends of employees and customers alike. Before that she lived a long and active life growing up in the east Texas community of Tarkington, later living in Houston. Gladys had many interesting stories of her younger years in east Texas through the 30's and 40's; in Houston, she encountered many interesting people such as George Jones, Mel Tillis, Mickey Gilley, and others. Before coming to Luby's, she worked at the Nabisco Baking Company on Almeda Road and at Gulf Publishing Company, among other jobs. Gladys was a faithful member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church, Richwood and prior to that Bastrop Bayou Baptist Church. She loved gospel music and would attend concerts whenever she could. Gladys loved people and she loved Jesus; her message to all was my Lord leads me and takes care of me every day. She wanted everyone to know her Lord Jesus as their Savior.
