George William Jennings, Sr., 83, of Angleton, passed away on August 12, 2026.
George was born on November 28, 1942, in Cottonwood, Texas, to Elton and Iris (Coats) Jennings. Throughout his 83 years, George filled many roles in the lives of those around him — son, soldier, husband, peace officer, father, grandpa, brother, friend, coworker, and, to many who knew and loved him, a hero.
George proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. The respect he earned from the soldiers who served alongside him and under his leadership was immeasurable, creating bonds that endured for more than 50 years. The leadership, loyalty, and strength of character he demonstrated during his military service remained with him throughout his life and served him well in every role that followed.
After his military service, George continued serving others as a peace officer. He also enjoyed a long career with Dow Chemical, where he worked for 42 years.
On August 29, 1964, George married Patricia Gail Lesch in Fort Benning, Georgia. Together they built a life and family and shared 54 years of marriage before Patricia’s passing.
George enjoyed deer hunting, especially when it meant time spent with family and friends. He had an infectious smile, was always ready for a good joke, and loved his family immensely. For George, family extended well beyond those related by blood. Many friends became family, and those fortunate enough to call George a friend knew they had someone they could trust and count on.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Jennings; his father, Elton Jennings; his mother, Iris McKay; his sister, Anna Ruth Stuart; and his brother, James Carrol Jennings.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Teresa Jennings Buchta and her husband, Greg, and George Jennings Jr. and his wife, Andrea; his siblings, Gloria Nell Lee, Marie Woody, Rose Pohl and her husband, Ed, David Jennings and his wife, Alma, and Diane Jennings; his granddaughters, Brenna Taylor and her husband, Keith, Hailey Jennings, and Morgan Buchta; and his great-granddaughter, Evalyn Taylor. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who will remember him with love.
The family is especially grateful for George’s niece, Ava Woody Gibson, whose selfless and loving care over the past two years provided George with comfort, companionship, and the gift of having family by his side.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Palms Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Angleton Cemetery.
