Obituary

Florin Joseph Vrazel, Sr., a lifelong resident of Danbury, Texas, passed away Monday, August 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, hard work, and service. To those who knew and loved him, Florin was a man who believed in working hard, loving deeply, serving others, and always putting his family first.

The second of eleven children, Florin was born November 7, 1936, in Danbury to Donat and Marie Vrazel. He grew up working on the family farm, where he learned at an early age the value of hard work and perseverance. The family farm produced cotton, soybeans, hay, and cattle, and those early years helped shape the man he would become.

Florin graduated from Danbury High School in 1954, where he was very active in FFA and became the first person in Danbury to receive the American Farmer Degree. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. He served in Germany as a track mechanic before returning home to Danbury.

His commitment to serving others continued when he joined the Houston Police Department. During his time with the department, Florin was assigned to the security detail for President John F. Kennedy during the President’s visit to Houston the night before his assassination in Dallas. After leaving the police department, Florin continued his career as a pipefitter with Local 211. Through years of dedication and hard work, he became a master plumber and eventually owned and operated A1 Plumbing in Danbury until his retirement.

But of all the things Florin accomplished in his life, his greatest pride was his family.

He met the love of his life, Maureen Patricia Irwin, at the Brazoria County Fair in Angleton, Texas, and they were married on April 4, 1964. Together, Florin and Maureen built a life in Danbury and raised their five children. Their home was filled with love, faith, hard work, laughter, and family.

Florin and Maureen were active members of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, where they shared a strong and enduring faith. Together, they instilled that faith in their children and grandchildren, teaching them not only to love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but also to live out that faith by loving and serving others.

Florin was happiest when he was surrounded by his family. He loved cheering on his children and grandchildren at their many activities and was always one of their biggest supporters. He took great pride in their accomplishments, but even more than that, he took joy in simply being with them.

His grandchildren will especially remember sitting around the table, sharing stories and laughter with Pawpaw. When someone finished telling a story and Florin responded with his familiar, “Well, good,” they knew it truly was. Those simple moments of laughter, conversation, and togetherness are among the memories his family will treasure most.

Florin taught his family by the way he lived. He showed them that you work hard for the people you love, that you keep your word, that you serve others, and that family is one of life’s greatest blessings. His hands may have spent a lifetime building, repairing, and providing, but his greatest work was the family he and Maureen built together.

Florin is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maureen Patricia Irwin Vrazel; his parents, Donat and Marie Vrazel; his brothers, Edwin, Louis, and Joe Vrazel; and his baby sister, Bernadette Vrazel.

He leaves behind a family who will carry his love and example with them: his children, Melissa Galloway and husband John of Bryan, TX; Velecia Chaney and husband Mark of Huntsville, TX; Florin “Sonny” Vrazel, Jr. and wife Amy of Danbury, TX; Lee Vrazel and wife Beverly of Lake Jackson, TX; and Chris Vrazel and wife Sharon of Danbury, TX.

He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Christina Springston and husband Daniel, with their children Everett and Sadie; Andrew Ramirez; Marcus Ramirez; Zachary Craven and wife Amber with their son Callum; Candace Vrazel with her son Major; Amanda Margoliner and husband Brad with their sons Vallen and Asher; Bailey Hammack and husband Taylor with their daughters Harper and Tatum; Taylor Foyt and husband Emmitt with their children Sawyer, Cora, Baker, and Evie; Florin “Trey” Vrazel, III and wife Jessica with their sons Florin IV “Cord” and Garrett; Meredith Lausch and husband Maeson with their son Tucker; Morgan Zak and husband Bo with their children Nova and Tripp; Ryan Vrazel; Alex Vrazel; Hagan Vrazel and wife Amber; Branson Vrazel; and Francessca Vrazel.

He is also survived by his siblings Sister Anne Marie Vrazel, Martha Schaatt, Theresa Jones, Margaret Bargas, Lillie Svec, and Paul Vrazel.

Florin’s life was a testament to the things that mattered most to him: faith in God, love for his family, and the dignity of a hard day’s work. His legacy will live on not only in the many lives he touched, but most importantly in the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will continue to tell his stories, carry his lessons, and love him for generations to come.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished as a husband, father, Pawpaw, brother, and friend.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons Andrew Ramirez, Zachary Craven, Florin “Trey” Vrazel III, Marcus Ramirez, Hagan Vrazel, Branson Vrazel, Alex Vrazel, and Ryan Vrazel.
