Florence Jane Boehm

Florence Jane Speckels Boehm of Angleton, Texas, passed away on July 24, 2025. She was born on August 22, 1927, in Schulenburg, Texas, to Irwin W. Speckels and Leonida Von Minden Speckels. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schulenburg, Texas.

Jane graduated from Schulenburg ISD in 1945 and enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. While at UT, Jane did a lot of dancing with a love for tap and ballroom styles, especially. She was in several musical productions, was a Blue Belle nominee, and sang in the Girls' Glee Club. On August 7, 1949, Jane married Edward Gene Boehm of Moulton, Texas. They spent two years in College Station while Gene finished his degree at Texas A&M University. In February 1951, they moved to Angleton, where Gene was hired as the Assistant County Agent for Brazoria County. Jane served as a substitute teacher in the elementary schools at Angleton ISD, and later worked as a bookkeeper for a local lumber company, as well as Angleton Mill and Feed Company for Gene.

Gene and Jane were blessed with three children, Rodney, Bridget, and Rhonda. During their children’s formative years, Gene and Jane were heavily involved in the St. John Lutheran Church, where they were charter members. She enjoyed the Garden Club, Crescendo Dance Club, The Angleton Study Club, and both the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. Jane was proud to help Gene see all three of their children attain the highest rank in scouting. There were many memorable camping trips.

Jane became a member of the Texas A&M University Federation of Mothers’ Clubs and, after serving in different offices of the organization, was elected state president in 1984-1985. Lifetime friendships were made with seven fellow Aggie Moms, who lovingly referred to themselves as the “Monkeys”.

Volunteering was a way of life for Jane; after her children were all grown, she joined the Angleton Danbury Medical Center Auxiliary and worked in various roles, serving two years as president. Thousands of hours were spent at the hospital sewing pillows, Christmas stockings, and burp cloths for the newborns. She was also responsible for recording service hours for auxiliary volunteers. She loved working with all the dedicated people.

Jane loved to travel. She was fortunate to travel to Australia, Europe, Alaska, the Scandinavian countries, and many places in between. In her spare time, she taught an exercise program for 10 years and worked in retail sales. She truly enjoyed sewing and creating other craft projects. These are still treasured by many.

Her love of wildlife, particularly birds, continued throughout her life. Her daily ritual of feeding the birds at the assisted living complex was very important to her in her final years. Everyone knew Ms. Jane would be on her way out the door at 3:30 every afternoon to attend to the local birds.

She has lived a wonderful, long life with so many blessings. Her family and friends gave her so much pleasure. Thanks be to God!

She is survived by son Rodney Boehm and wife Ann, Bridget Besser and husband Mike, and Rhonda Boehm. 10 grandchildren also survive her: Jim Boehm and wife Julia, John Boehm and wife Myria, Matthew Boehm and wife Katie, Emily Tuggle and husband Zac, Paul Boehm and wife Diane, Christopher Boehm and wife Bernadette, Ashley Walton and husband Matt, Lauren Roper and husband Matthew, Jordan Dees and wife Shirley, Taylor Dees, and 22 great grandchildren.

Jane’s grandsons, Jim, John, Matthew, Paul, Christopher, Jordan, and grandsons-in-law, Matt and Matthew, will serve as pallbearers.
