Obituary

Elmer (Buddy) Albert Munroe, Jr., 78, went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2026.

He was born on October 31, 1947, in Houston, Texas, to the late Elmer Albert Munroe, Sr. and Roma (Landis) Munroe. Elmer lived a life devoted to God and will be remembered for his kindness, strength, and the many lives he touched throughout the years.

He was a star football player in high school and an excellent student. He and his wife, Ann, met when he was 18 and married four years later when he finished college. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches with a double major in Business and Economics. One of his adventures was a trip to Alaska, where a plane let him out in the middle of the wilderness to hunt. The pilot later crashed, so no one knew where he was, and he wasn’t found for a week and a half. He and his dad lived off berries and bear meat. He joined the Marines for a short time. His higher education included some law school in Houston, engineering classes at the University of Texas at Austin, Dallas Bible College, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He started his own business, Texas Horizons after college. Later, he was a hunting ranch foreman and started a business called Mission Books. He had a Christian hospitality ministry and was active in prison ministry. He pastored Calliham Community Church for 15 years and went on mission trips to Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine, and Belize several times, as well as extended trips to Israel. He loved the Lord and wanted to serve Him.

Elmer was married to Ann (Lewis) Munroe in 1971, with whom he shared almost 55 cherished years.

In his spare time, Elmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football, gardening, bird watching, Bible study, playing hymns on the piano, and he was an avid wildlife enthusiast who enjoyed feeding deer and other animals.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; his daughter, Bonnie York, and her husband, John York; his daughter, Kathryn Seel; his beloved granddaughter, Abigail Seel (who called him “Boppa”); and his daughter, Wendy Sparkes. He is also survived by his brother, Dallas Munroe, and his wife, Paula Munroe; and his sister, Sharon Kingcaid and her daughters, Melanie Kocurek and Joy Scott.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother-in-law, James Kingcaid; and his son-in-law, David Seel.

Graveside services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek, Texas.

Elmer will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
