Edward Francis Taylor, 83, a longtime resident of Angleton, Texas, passed unexpectedly in Houston, Texas, on September 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife of 62 years, Seareatha Red Taylor; his son, Edward “Diggy” Taylor; and his daughter-in-law, Kara Taylor.

Ed was born in Waco, Texas, on August 10, 1943, to Willard W. Taylor and Frances Schwab Taylor of Angleton. He was the third of four sons.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Seareatha; son, Edward Taylor, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kara Taylor; grandchildren Justin Taylor and Leah Taylor; brother Darrell Taylor (Diane); brother-in-law Johnny Red (Jackie); many nieces and nephews; and his honorary son, Anthony Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert Todd Taylor; and his brothers, Randy Taylor and Berriman Taylor.

Ed, as he was known to his friends, and “Opa,” as he was known to his grandchildren, was a man who never could quite sit still. He could often be found right beside Seareatha, cooking large quantities of food on the backyard cooker, preparing and planting the yearly garden that supplied vegetables to family, friends, and neighbors, swimming, or spending hours each week mowing on his tractor.

The Bayou was his sanctuary and a place where he found peace and enjoyment. Ed and Seareatha also shared a love of travel and enjoyed seeing the world together. Their home was a place where the front door was always open, and friends were always welcome to stop by for a visit.

Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and a mischievous streak. He loved playing pranks on unsuspecting recipients and was known for bringing laughter and fun wherever he went. He had a generous spirit and a way of making people feel at home.

Ed was a 1962 graduate of Angleton High School. He remained a loyal alumnus of Sam Houston State University and Pike fraternity, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Following college, Ed began his career as an accountant, working for several companies in Houston. He and Seareatha later moved to Alaska, where they lived and worked for several years with Digicon Geophysical.

After returning to Angleton, Ed went into business with his father-in-law, A.A. Red and Gladys Red, starting Angle Tex Material Company. Later in life, Ed and

Seareatha continued their entrepreneurial spirit by opening Diggy’s on the Strand in Galveston, Texas. For several years, they served delicious food and drinks to residents, visitors, and the many friends they made on Galveston Island.

Retirement was never really something Ed was able to embrace. Instead, he and Seareatha continued their “retirement” years as ranch managers at Rocking H Ranch near Laredo, Texas, and previously at Paisano Ranch in Webb County.

The ranch became another special chapter in Ed’s life and provided the perfect place for him to share his love of hunting, the outdoors, and game management with his family and the many friends he met along the way.

Ed will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and mentor. He lived a full and active life surrounded by the people and places he loved. His laughter, sense of humor, generosity, love of the outdoors, and open-door hospitality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at a later date and time. Details will be shared with family and friends as arrangements are finalized.
