Dorothy Sue Woods of Danbury, Texas, passed from this life on September 14, 2026, at the age of 88. Dorothy loved her God, her family, her students, fellow teachers, and her Rockets. She will be missed by all that knew her.
She was born in Webb City, Oklahoma, on May 19, 1938. She was the eighth of nine children. Dorothy graduated from Shidler High School in 1956. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Jackie Louis Woods, and they lovingly raised four children.
Dorothy was a long-serving member of Danbury Baptist Church. She spent many Sunday mornings in fellowship with her God and community. She lived devoted to her faith and teachings. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Education in 1969 and began teaching students in Cushing, Oklahoma. She continued teaching in Danbury and Angleton, Texas for 42 years, finally retiring in 2011. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and served as a mentor teacher to many of her colleagues. She loved teaching science. Her class was the highlight of many students’ day.
She was an exceptionally selfless person who always put others first. All were welcome in her home, and her pool was filled with neighbors all summer. She loved the game of basketball and played basketball in high school and college. She loved the Houston Rockets and if they were playing a game, she would be watching intently.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Charles and Lillie, as well as siblings Norma, Georgia, Mary, Charles, Frank, Albert, James “Richard”, and Alice. She is survived by her sister Martha, her children Jack Jr, Keith, John, and Robin, their spouses Karon, Kathy, Susan, and Doug, her grandchildren Melissa, Jackie, Julie, Zachary, Cody, Cole, Evan, Bryan, Dustin, Megan, Dylan, and Monica, their spouses Marc and Jared, and great-granddaughters Lillian, Willa, Quinn and Rory.
For her remembrance, Visitation will be at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas from 5 to 7 pm on Friday September 25. Family Only from 4 to 5. Grave side service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, September 26, at Danbury Cemetery.
