Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Wagner, age 81, of Clute, Texas (formerly of Angleton, Texas), on February 12, 2026.

Donald was known by many names throughout his life — Don, Donnie, DW, Daddy Wags, Uncle Donnie, Dad, Grandpa, Pops, and PopPop — but never “Mr. Wagner.” To those who loved him, he was family first, friend always, and the steady presence everyone could count on.

He was born on December 21, 1944, in The Bronx, New York, and moved to Texas with his family in 1948. He grew up in Angleton and graduated from Angleton High School, where he built lifelong friendships and the strong work ethic that would define his life.

In 1966, Donald married the love of his life, Wanda Hoelewyn Wagner. Together they built a home centered on laughter, loyalty, and unwavering support for their family. Their marriage was a partnership of nearly six decades filled with devotion, patience, and countless shared memories.

Donald spent his career with Collins Instrument Company starting as a Welder in 1967 and retiring as Shop Forman in 2009. He took pride in hard work and craftsmanship, and those who worked beside him knew him as dependable, skilled, and always willing to lend a hand or share a story.

Above all, Donald was a family man. He was the proud father of three amazing daughters: Kristin Swords, Jennifer Fonville, and Robin Arnold. He welcomed his sons-in-law, Mark Swords, Bryan Fonville, and COL William Arnold (US Army), as sons of his own.

He was a beloved grandfather to ENS Chase Swords (US Navy), Beau Fonville, Jett Fonville, MMN3 Ethan Fonville (US Navy), his “bestie” Harlee Fonville, Cassius Arnold, and Alexander Arnold. He proudly welcomed his granddaughter-in-law Haley Swords, was overjoyed to become a great-grandfather to Carter Swords, and eagerly awaited the arrival of Cooper Swords, expected in May 2026.

Donald is also survived by his brother, Richard Wagner, along with extended family and many friends whose lives he touched through humor, kindness, and quiet generosity.

He will be remembered for his steady guidance, his jokes that came at just the right moment, his unwavering love for his family, and the comfort of knowing he was always there. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down — hard work, loyalty, humility, and unconditional love.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever present in the hearts of those who knew him.
