Daniel Wendell Martin passed away, surrounded by family, in his home in Danbury Texas on February 1, 2026. He was 76 years old.
Daniel was born in Albion, Michigan on October 31, 1949. He graduated from Hartford High School where he was class president, but most importantly, he met Alice Marie Stafford. The two were married in 1970 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2020.
Dan began attending college at Albion College in Michigan, eventually transferring to Western Michigan to be with Alice. Before he could finish his bachelor’s degree, he was drafted in 1972 which would take the couple to Texas. While stationed in San Antonio, Dan finished basic training and found his professional calling, combining the experience of his mother (ICU nurse) and his father (high school principal) to begin his career in Healthcare Administration. He would finish his bachelor’s at Mary-Hardin Baylor, a 4.0 student and a father of a growing family.
While in San Antonio, Dan would also begin his path of faith, investigating and joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints along with his wife. This would begin a lifetime of serving others and reflecting the love of the Savior.
Dan would finish his military service in 1979 and continue his schooling in the San Antonio area, earning a master’s degree in Hospital Administration from Trinity University in 1983. After his residency in Missouri, he would begin running rural Texas hospitals in Winnie, West Community Hospital, and finally Angleton/Danbury. Living in Danbury, Dan and Alice moved into their “forever” home, where their eighth and final child was born. Here he would later become CEO of Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast for 10 years before becoming Executive in Residence, teaching the University of Houston Clear Lake’s Health Administration Program. He would also serve in many leadership positions in the Bay City Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, becoming a staple not only in his community but also in his faith, always endeavoring to bring out the best in those in his circle of influence.
Dan was diagnosed with Parkinsons around the year 2000, a battle he fought for over 25 years. Despite this, he never stopped being a loving husband, father, grandfather, leader and friend. He is survived by his wife, Alice; four siblings Susan, Sandra, David and Elizabeth; children Peter (Marianne), Rebecca, Benjamin, Jonathan (Jennifer), Lindsey (Jacob), Todd and Laurel; grandchildren Christopher, Hayden, Ethan, Danae, Bryce, Imogen, Ian, Violet, Penelope, Eli, June, Henry, Audrey, Andrew, Elizabeth, Gavin and Nora. He is preceded in death by his parents Wendell and Eleanor and his daughter Allyson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Angleton. Burial will follow at Danbury Cemetery.
