Cheryl Thompson Bodden, loving wife, mother, sister, Nurse and friend passed away on January 17, 2026, peacefully at home.
Cheryl was born in Butler, Choctaw County, Alabama to Howard and Lula Thompson. After graduating from high school she went to nursing school and began working in Labor and Delivery in Mobile, Alabama, and became Charge Nurse at age nineteen. She later moved to Texas when she married husband Joseph Bodden in 1977. Cheryl then worked in Labor and Delivery at the Community Hospital in Freeport and at Brazosport Hospital in Lake Jackson delivering babies for twenty years. After leaving hospital work Cheryl became a school nurse for Angleton ISD serving students and families for 25 years until retiring in 2017. She had a warm heart for all the students and special needs students as well. To some of the younger students she was known as “Nurse Boddems”. Cheryl understood the healing power of a good hug in addition to the Band Aids, administering medications and treating all wounds. A biological mother of three she always claimed every child in her care as her own.
As a creative she enjoyed sewing, quilting, stained glass working, jewelry making and painting as well as other various arts and crafts. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, birding and the sounds of a rainy day.
Cheryl is survived by her devoted husband Joe, son Griffin, daughter Kathryn, sister Martha Stafford and other family and friends that will miss her deeply.
Cheryl is preceded in death by son Stewart, parents Howard and Lula Thompson, sister Geraldine Scott, brother Howard Thompson and brother Donald Thompson.
Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 2 PM on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas followed by funeral service at 2 PM and graveside service at Angleton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Special Olympics Texas or the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Stafford, Texas.
