Charlie Johnson Ballard, 86, of Angleton, Texas, passed away in Galveston, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family. He was born in Frederick, Oklahoma, in Tillman County, one of fourteen children born to George Samuel and Clara Novella (Bridges) Ballard.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that reflected his lifelong sense of duty and strength. After his service, he built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.
Charlie met the love of his life, Pamela Jill McDonald, at Delaney’s in Angleton, where Pamela was working while he made his milk deliveries. Their chance meeting soon blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on August 5, 1974. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Gardening and yard work were his therapy, and he took pride in maintaining a beautiful home. He loved cooking for his family and was known as an enthusiastic grocery shopper. Charlie’s hands were rarely idle, and his heart was always focused on caring for those he loved.
He is survived by his children, Christopher Ballard (wife, Lanae) and Patricia Petrosky; and his cherished grandchildren, Lindsey Kitchens, Caden Ballard-Petrosky, Owen Ethridge, Jackson Ballard, Wyatt Ballard, and Nicholas Ballard. His family was his greatest pride and joy.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Pamela Ballard; and his siblings, Leon Ballard, Troice Ballard, Floice Ballard, Doyle Ballard, Maxine Hudspeth, Mary Hostak, and Patricia Ballard.
Charlie will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his devotion to family, and the steady, loving presence he brought into the lives of those who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished so deeply.
Services for Charlie will be held at Palms Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Catoe officiating. Charlie will be laid to rest on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Houston National Cemetery at 9:30 a.m.
