Billie M. Hayes Fontenot

Billie M. Hayes Fontenot, 89, a longtime resident of Angleton, Texas, passed away on September 8, 2026. Born on July 1, 1937, in Groveton, Texas, Billie was the daughter of John Wesley Hayes and Jessie Mae (Norsworthy) Hayes. She made Angleton her home in 1965 and was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church.

Billie had a true servant’s heart and spent her life caring for others. Being raised during the Great Depression era instilled in her a tremendous sense of responsibility, especially when it came to caring for and supporting her family and friends. Her family was the center of her world, and nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters, and extended family. She cared for her Mom, Dad and oldest sister until they went home to be with the Lord. As one of seven sisters, Billie grew up knowing the importance of a close and loving family. She worked alongside her sisters for many years in the family’s dry-cleaning business, where they shared so many wonderful memories together.

Known for her remarkable independence from the time she was just two years old, Billie was strong, capable, and determined. She was also thoughtful and generous, always finding joy in giving gifts and doing something kind for someone else. She loved music, enjoyed antique shopping and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Jessie Mae Hayes; her devoted husband and life long love, Dannis Fontenot; and five sisters, Ima Stephens, Selma Mott, Pauline Fussell, Katherine White, and Johnnie Barrilleaux.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dannis L. Fontenot, Crystal Fontenot Lezak and husband Paul; Eric Fontenot and wife Rebecca, and her sister, Linda Patton and husband Ace; and her beloved grandchildren, Zane Lezak, Alexa Wolforth and husband Garrett, Sydney Fontenot, Trace Fontenot, and Emma Lynne Fontenot. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who were blessed by her love, generosity, and servant’s heart.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Palms Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Angleton Cemetery.
