Betty Jane (Schumacher) Illgen

Betty Jane Schumacher Illgen passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on August 8, 2025, two months shy of her 101st birthday. She was raised in upstate New York and graduated from Marathon High School. Two years later she graduated from a local business college after college she married Arthur Fuller also a graduate of Marathon High School. They build a home and raise their three children near Ithaca, New York. 

Betty spent the majority of her career at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. After her retirement in 1979 from the university they moved to Houston, Texas. She lived a full life filled with love, family, and friends. In 1983, Art passed away and Betty met Irvin Illgen, and they married, and she moved to Angleton, Texas. They enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, family, and friends. Irvin passed away in 2014. 

Betty is survived by her three children Sharon, Craig (Laurie), Cindy (Brian), her grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews. 

She is proceeded in death by her two husbands, her parents, her sister, Jean; and her brother, William. How blessed we have had been to have had her in our lives and we grieve, but not without hope of being with her again. 

Special thanks to her medical team Dr. Dalal, the hospice nurses, and aids who professionally cared for her. Services will be on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at first Baptist Church in Angleton.
