Benjamin Franklin Filipp, known to many as “Poik”, went to his heavenly home March 19, 2026, surrounded by family. Benjamin was born October 27, 1937, in Danbury, Texas to
Frank and Emilie Filipp, the sixth of eight children. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1956 and joined the United States Army. Upon his return to Danbury, he worked at
Heiman’s Meat Market and on March 2, 1958, he married the love of his life, Loretta
Dubuisson. They were married for 60 years until her death in 2018, and together they raised a family of six based on love, faith and family. He worked and retired from Monsanto
Chemical Company where he carpooled with his good friend, John Burney. During these years, he briefly owned and operated Filipp’s Meat Market located inside Leo’s Grocery in Danbury.
Benjamin went by many names: Honey, Daddy, Paw Paw, Uncle Poik, Candy Man, and a few names we cannot mention. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as oystering, fishing, gardening, camping on the Guadalupe River and attending the sporting events of his many grandchildren. He even had his personal reserved parking space at the Danbury Sports
Complex. His indoor activities included watching televised ballgames and gameshows and solving his daily sudoku. However, his absolute favorite activity was casino trips with his family. Benjamin was a member of the St. Anthony’s Knights of Columbus and loved to visit with his fellow knights at the Friday Fish Frys during Lent. He was also the barbeque chairman at St. Anthony’s Church Bazaar for numerous years. He was a pillar of his community by serving on the Danbury ISD board of trustees and coaching little league for many years. He never met a stranger and always had a new joke to share with anyone who would listen. He was the kind of man who always knew exactly what to say, no matter the
situation. His wit and wisdom came in handy anytime it was needed and he was a special friend to many people. Benjamin was well known for his homemade noodles, pralines, and banana pudding (And believe us, his grandkids knew the difference). Although he enjoyed all these things, his first priority each day was to spend time with God and pray his rosary.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Keith Filipp, son-in-law Paul Fief, granddaughters Brandi & Brittani Roberts and granddaughter-in-law Maryann Fief. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Georgian Reeder, Benita Dixon, and Mary Stark and brothers Eugene (Hoot) Filipp, Alvin (Meek) Filipp, and Jimmy Filipp.
He is survived by daughters Gwen Fief, Shay Roberts (Gene), Roxanne Walch (Tim), Lanette Roye (Joey), son Kevin Filipp (Kristin), and daughter-in-law Linda Filipp. His grandchildren Amber Kroschel (Roger), Brice Fief (Jennifer), Cole Fief (Rebekah), Capree Young (Kyle),
Megan Dunleavy (Sean), Kara Baliani (Dylan), Stewart Roye (Rachael), Haden Roye (Niko), Clare Fletcher (Caylon), Emma Roye, Sydney Filipp, and Trace Filipp. Great-grandchildren Abbey Kroschel (Ashton), Max Kroschel, Lexi Fief, Oliver Fief, Michael Fief, Case Kroschel, Caroline Young, Fisher Young, Reed Fief, Brooks Young, Keane Dunleavy, Hank Dunleavy,
