Alfred "A.J." James Jez

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alfred James Jez (A. J.) announces his passing on August 13, 2025, at the age of 77. He passed away at the Sweeny Hospital in Sweeny, Texas with his family by his side.

A.J. was born to Henry Fridolin and Libby Annie (Lubojacky) Jez on September 20, 1947. He was born on his mother’s birthday which was a treat for him. His life path led him to the U. S. Army with the honor of serving his country as a top Drill Sargent. After coming home from the service, A.J. became a lineman. After a while, he signed into the Union Electrical School 4 year program where he has been a member for 55 years in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union #716. He taught first year apprenticeship classes at the Houston Community College for 26 years.

He re-connected with Cheryl Ann (Macon) Grizzle, the woman who would become his wife. They wed on February 02, 2002 and built a wonderful life together with their blended families.

A.J. enjoyed hunting, fishing with everyone and finishing projects with family and friends. He loved watching his grandchildren, Guy Raasch and Claye Kenney rope in the practice pen or official rodeos. Also, his granddaughter Karissa Blau and all her dance recitals plus graduating from Texas A & M– Gig Em! We cannot forget his cooking/grilling ability. Best brisket ever and those ribs!! After retirement, he enjoyed tending to his cows.

Preceded in death by; Parents: Henry & Libby Jez, Grandparents: Fridolin & Frances Jez, Louis & Emilie Lubojacky plus numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Left to remember A.J. is his wife, Cheryl Macon Jez. Children: Becky Jez (Matt Blau), Krissy Jez Keith, Cody & Jennifer Kenney, Jay & Paula Grizzle and Jeff & Teri Grizzle. Siblings: Henry Jez, Jr., John & Janie (Jez) Light and Robert & Imelda Jez. Grandchildren: Karissa Blau, Guy Raasch, Claye Kenney, Chelby Kenney, Stormy Kenney, Colin & Macie Echols, Morgan Grizzle & Keaton Crabb, Blaine Grizzle, Collin Grizzle, Alyssa Keith, and Amiya Keith. Great Grandchildren: Isabella Ann Grizzle. Henry and Karen Hair.

Visitation will begin at 10am with the Funeral services following at 11am on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Palms Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Angleton Cemetery. The Pallbearers are: Cody Kenney, Jay Grizzle, Jeff Grizzle, Brady Stark, T.J. Earhart, Doug Jeske, Gary Burleson, Ed Crottie. Honorary Pallbearers are Henry Jez, Jr and Robert Jez.

The family has requested all those interested to please join us at, Smitharts in Angleton, Texas for refreshments and visitation at 1-4pm.
