Ronald Winton Sims

Ronald Winton Sims, "Ron" passed from this life to be with his Lord on December 3, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Houston after a short illness. Ron was born October 28, 1949, in Freeport to Winton E. Sims and Viola Fern McGinnis. He grew up and lived in South Louisiana, and returned to the Angleton area in 1997. After high school, he entered the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany in 1969. Ron also served in the Army National Guard in Houma, Louisiana. While he was in the National Guard, his unit was activated and deployed to New Orleans during the Police Strike in the 1970s. Ron worked in many different fields during his life, becoming a jack of all trades. Ron worked as a Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Agent, as a plumber, for an electrical co-op where he was sent to north Louisiana to assist in restoring electricity to communities during an ice storm, in the oilfield where he managed a tools warehouse and worked to help set up a safety program, for Penske in automotive repair and maintenance, and in auto parts. Ron enjoyed wood working. Ron loved people, the outdoors, and animals. He had recently joined the Brazoria County Crime Stoppers organization. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Winton E. Sims and Viola Fern McGinnis; his step-mother, Florence McLeod Gustavsen; and his brother, Thomas Edward Sims. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia H. Sims, of Angleton; his sister-in-law, Myrl Sims of Bryan; his step-sister, Betty Willy, of Lake Jackson; his step-brother, John Gustavsen and wife Dana of Lake Jackson; his step-brother, William Gustavsen and wife Autumn of Austin; and his step-brother Robert Gustavsen and wife Martha of Conroe. Ron is also survived by his nephews, Russell Hicks and son, Eric, of Henderson, and Thomas Hicks and wife Julie of Houma, LA; his niece, Mary Cook and husband Dale of Houma, LA; his nephew Gary Sims and wife Pattie of Bryan; his nieces, Karen Coleman and husband Glenn of Bryan, and Laura Eichelberger and husband Reed of Montgomery. He is survived by his great-nieces and nephews: Kristi Marie Cook; Jessica Barnes and husband Judd; Amanda Sims; Rebecca Joslin and husband Justin; Kristina Welch and husband Wesley; Eddie Sims and wife Chelsey; Layla Fry and husband Joe Maloney; Marah Nemec and husband Nick; Nola Finke and husband Sean; Emily Massey, Casey Coleman, Peanut Coleman, Andrea Coleman, Jill Schweiker and husband Brian and Wade Eichelberger. He is also survived by 14 great, great nieces and nephews. Ron was a loving and devoted husband to Patricia for 43 years, and he was a devoted and caring friend to many. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 12:00 noon at Palms Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: the Michael E.
