Miriam Goodman

Miriam Wells Goodman, a long time resident of Angleton, Texas, went to her Heavenly home on January 31, 2018, at the age of 93. She was born on November 10, 1924, to Arthur Augustus Wells and Lilla Mae Henderson Wells in Caves Springs, Texas. Funeral Services are set for Saturday, February 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Angleton at 1:00 pm, with burial to follow in Angleton Cemetery. Public Visitation will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5-7:00pm in Palms Funeral Home. Miriam graduated from Linden High School in 1942, then attended East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. After college, she worked as a secretary at Bennett and George, Allen Brothers, and Cass County Vocational School for Veterans in Linden. A few years later, Miriam moved to Houston and worked for T. J. Bettis. On December 28, 1949, she married the love of her life, Pete Goodman, and moved to Palestine, where he was coaching. When the school year ended, they lived in Austin and she worked for the TEA in the Capitol Building, while Pete was taking some college courses. Next, they moved to the Texas State Orphan's Home in Corsicana, where Pete coached. Miriam worked as secretary to the Superintendent of the Home. After one year, they moved to Angleton in 1951 when Pete was hired as a coach where they spent their remaining years. Miriam has worked as a secretary for Maintenance and Construction (Plant A) in Freeport; the Texas Employment Commission, Lorraine Construction Company, and Greenawalt Plumbing in Angleton. She spent the next twelve years working for Fenix and Scisson, Inc. (in Chocolate Bayou, Stratton Ridge, Bryan, and Boling); and the District Clerk's Office in the Courthouse for twelve years. Miriam retired in 1989. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where Miriam served in many areas such as treasurer for the Mary Martha Sunday School Class, the FUMC Food Pantry, delivered floral bouquets to the ill or shut-ins, treasurer and other offices for the U.M.W., a member of the Methodist Church Administrative Board and later Secretary for the Board for two years; head of the Worship Committee, helped with organizing funeral meals; sang with group at the two nursing homes; assisted in the Church Office for seven years; a His Kids Mentor; helped with Vacation Bible School, and was a children's Sunday school teacher. Miriam served on the Angleton Cemetery Committee, worked as Election Clerk on local elections (school board, country, district offices, state and federal offices), attended BSF for six years, worked for the Angleton Food Pantry and scheduled and rang the Salvation Army Bell. She enjoyed traveling with Pete to Navy reunions, visiting family and friends, and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Lilla Wells, her husband Pete Goodman, her brothers Marion Douglas and wife Margie Wells, Reuben Bishop and wife Cora Dale Wells, Arthur Glenn and wife Mary Wells, Lane Gunter and wife Gilda Wells, Ray Henderson and wife Betty Wells, and sister Maxine and husband Parker Maxfield. Survivors include, her son, Greg Goodman of Angleton; daughter Ginger and husband Barry Taylor of Georgetown; granddaughters Noelle and husband Austin Schrader of Georgetown; Jaime Lehman and Brianna Rivera, great granddaughters, Anastasia Lee; Elle Miriam Rozacky and Camdyn Schrader; and numerous nieces and nephews.
