Melvin Curtis Leonard, age 85, of Angleton, passed away on January 8, 2016, in Crockett, Texas. He was born May 24, 1930, in Midway, Texas to Tom and Isabelle Leonard. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Angleton Cemetery with Leland Rodgers officiating. Melvin had been living at the Whitehall Nursing facility in Crockett, Texas. Prior to moving to Crockett, he had lived in Angleton with his wife, Jeannette (Janie), and they were members of the Wilkins Street Church of Christ. Melvin was employed by the Texas Municipal System in the City of Angleton. He had served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953. His favorite pastime was riding his horse in the heading and heeling events where he received several trophies. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie, his parents, and his brother, Burtis Leonard. He was survived by a nephew, Jeffrey Leonard of Florida and a niece Jaye Blaha and her children. Also surviving are one Aunt Wera Leonard Herrera, several cousins, and his extended family.
