Harold Stafford Shuman

December 30, 1926 — October 23, 2013

Harold Stafford Shuman, who survived World War II to become a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died peacefully on Oct. 23 at his home in Friendswood. Funeral services for Shuman, 86, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Community Baptist Church in Danbury, followed by a private burial next week at Houston National Cemetery. The family will receive guests 5-8 p.m. Friday at CBC in Danbury. Shuman was born Dec. 30, 1926, as the eighth of 10 children to Roy and Edith Shuman. He was a 72-year-resident of Danbury and spent the last 14 years of his life in Friendswood. Shuman was stationed at Okinawa as a member of the U.S. Navy in 1944-45. After returning home, he spent most of his career working as an oilfield driller and later the owner of Shuman Construction Company. He was also a deacon at Danbury Baptist Church and a charter member of Community Baptist Church. Shuman's priorities in life were God, family, country, and 42-although not always in that order. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, patriotism, unmatched work ethic, a love for woodworking, and a library of memorable sayings and stories. Shuman was a member of Gideons International, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family requests memorials be sent to Community Baptist Church in Danbury or First Baptist Church of Friendswood.
