Frequently Asked Questions

What types of funeral services exist?
Every family is different, and not everyone wants the same type of funeral. Funeral practices are influenced by religious and cultural traditions, costs and personal preferences. These factors help determine whether the funeral will be elaborate or simple, public or private, religious or secular, and where it will be held. They also influence whether the body will be present at the funeral, if there will be a viewing or visitation, and if so, whether the casket will be open or closed, and whether the remains will be buried or cremated.

What is the difference between a funeral service and a memorial service?
A funeral service is a service commemorating the deceased with the body present. A memorial service is a ceremony commemorating the deceased without the body present. Funeral services are traditionally held in the funeral home chapel, church, or graveside. Memorial services can be held at the funeral home chapel, church or other locations the family may desire.

What is the purpose for embalming?
Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body, delays the decomposition process, and enhances the appearance of a body. Although not required by law in most instances; embalming is required by most funeral homes for a visitation. Embalming makes it possible to lengthen the time between death and the final disposition, thus allowing family members time to arrange and participate in the type of service most comforting to them.

Can you perform the funeral service even though I already own my cemetery lot?
Yes. Where you own cemetery space should have not bearing on which funeral home you select. We can arrange any type of service, at virtually any location desired.

How can I find out if your services are right for my family's specific needs?
We can send you some general information which will apply to anyone planning a funeral. But to make informed decisions, you'll want more specific facts. And the fastest, easiest and most effective way for you to get them is to sit down, visit with us, review our programs, discuss various options and ask questions.

What is Prearrangement?
Prearrangement is planning a funeral before the time of death. It is an important part of your estate and retirement planning. Without prearrangement, the details of the funeral are left to a small group of family members who have little warning or time to plan this major life event. Prearrangement relieves your family of that responsibility. You are able to leave detailed instructions about your desires and wishes. Prearrangement gives peace of mind to both you and your family.

I would like to prearrange, but what if I move?
Because of the flexible nature of our preneed contracts, your preferences for prearrangement may be transferred at any time in the event you move. Your local funeral director can recommend a reputable funeral home in your new community.

NOTE:
Texas law requires sellers of prepaid funeral contracts to hold a permit issued by the Texas Department of Banking. For additional information regarding prepaid funeral contracts, go to the website located at: www.prepaidfunerals.state.tx.us
