Julia Olive Derrick Schmidt

Olive Schmidt, 90, of League City passed away September 24, 2008, in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was born October 31, 1917, in Houston, Texas, to William Paul and Julia Bock Derrick.
She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years Leonard E. Schmidt in 2002, parents, two sisters and three brothers. She was the last of a Derrick generation. Olive is survived by her devoted daughter, Shirley, and son-in-law James Phillips of Angleton, and two sons Leonard Schmidt Jr. (Cindy) of Bay View and Richard Schmidt (Julia) of La Porte. Eight grandchildren Troy Schmidt, Amy Phillips, Kevin Schmidt, Mark Phillips, Sue Schmidt, Colten Schmidt and Cherisse Schmidt and three great grandchildren Jeremy Schmidt, Diana Schmidt, and James Schmidt.
Olive lived her entire life on the Texas Gulf Coast. In her younger years, she lived in the Houston Heights and during the depression her family permanently moved to their Galveston Bay summer home in Bay View. She graduated from Dickinson High School and later married the love of her life. She will be remembered for the unconditional love and support as a wife, mother, homemaker, and a talented seamstress, creative quilter, and avid crossword puzzle worker. She is now at peace and her smile, strength, kindness, spunk, and personality will be missed, but Olive will live in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be Friday, September 26, 2008, from 6 to 8 at the Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Palms Funeral Home on Saturday, September 27th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in League City with family members as pallbearers.
