Joe Edward Knopp Sr.,

Joe Edward Knopp Sr., 79, died on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, in Angleton, Texas.
Mr. Knopp was born in Fredericksburg, Texas on February 2, 1929, the son of Arthur M. Knopp and Clara Roos Knopp. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as part of the 121st Seabees Construction Battalion, principally on the island of Saipan. On August 5, 1950, he married Patricia Weinheimer in St. Mary’s Church in Fredericksburg.
In 1956, he and his family relocated to Angleton, where he worked for Dow Chemical Company for 29 years. He became a representative for Catholic Life Insurance Company in 1985 until his retirement.
He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 5155, the Golden Star Club and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10378.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Arthur J. and Leland Knopp.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children and their spouses, Joe E. Knopp Jr. of Angleton, Fred and Gloria Knopp of Katy, Texas, Patricia and John Fikes of Tyler, Texas, Leonard and Elaine Knopp of Clute, Texas, and Clare and Edward Holland of Marathon, Texas; also surviving are three grandchildren, Brad Knopp and his wife, Tammie, of Fredericksburg, Christopher Knopp of Katy and Elizabeth Ann Fikes of Tyler.
He also is survived by a sister-in-law, Clara Mae, Mrs. Arthur Knopp of Fredericksburg; and four aunts, Myrtle Roos and Margaret Stewart of Angleton, Hildegarde Schulze and Gertrude Roos of Fredericksburg. Also surviving are one sister-in-law, Marilyn, and spouse, James Llewellyn; one niece and seven nephews and their families in the Fort Worth area.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Palms Funeral Chapel in Angleton. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary by the Knights of Columbus.
A Mass of Resurrection will be on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church in Angleton with the Rev. Robert Dugan, C.S.B., officiating.
Rite of Committal will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Danbury, Texas.
