Severo “Rod” Rodriguez
Severo Rodriguez was deeply loved by his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. God held his hand as he quietly entered eternity on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. He was born in Encino, Texas to Silvestre and Gumecinda Rodriguez on November 8, 1933. He married Maria D. Garcia of San Diego, Texas on November 10, 1952. He moved his family to Hobbs, New Mexico for six years where he worked for Harry Newton Construction. He returned to Texas to work for Stanley Construction in Freeport Texas where he was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic where he retired after 34 years.
Severo enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent time cooking Bar-B-Q on grills which he designed and built. One of his joys was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and listening to Tejano music. He was a jack of all trades and delved in countless projects such as the carport and patio he built. He had a kind heart and often volunteered to help friends solve challenging problems with their cars. There wasn't a car he could not fix.
He will be missed and cherished by his family and friends and will be remembered through the many contributions he made throughout his life. One of his most prized traits was his contagious smile that would light up any room any time of the night and day. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Hospice Nurses - Helping Hands, of Lake Jackson, Texas for their care and emotional support through these difficult times.
Severo is survived by his wife Maria Rodriguez, daughters; Idalia Yanez of Angleton, Maria and Ben Ornelas of Austin, Diana Martinez of Sugarland, and Annie and Roger Hernandez of Angleton, brother; Isaac Rodriguez, sisters; Janie Villarreal and Tillie Grimes, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Palms Funeral Home chapel from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services for Severo will be held Friday, August 29th at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Angleton at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery.
